Spring Shows

The first part of 2018 has truly been an exciting adventure!  Reflecting back, I realize I’ve been all over the place!

Midtown Sacramento

Here’s a big shout out to Linda at Jimmy’s Barber Garage in the heart of midtown Sacramento.  My recent two month show was a tremendous success.  Thank you to everyone who came by to see my work and an extra thanks to those who took a piece (or two) home with them.  It’s also been wonderful to get some commission work out of it, as well!  I’m looking forward to dropping off $134 to A Community for Peace as the portion of the proceeds that are to go to charity.

E-I-E-I-Oh, No!
I’ve been having a great time as President of Northern California Art, Inc. and love that everything has been running so smoothly (especially as busy as I’ve been).  We have a great board and great members, too!  I was also excited to have my turn to hang “E-I-E-I-Oh, No!” in the window at The Sacramento Fine Arts Center.

I had the pleasure of judging the Diamond Springs Art Association’s Spring Show.  It was tough but I really enjoyed the challenge and seeing all the art and being able to hang a piece of my own as recognition for judging.  The members were so kind and accommodating!  I was surprised to find I was even mentioned here in their local paper (Mountain Democrat) twice!

Rancho Cordova

Who?

The city of Rancho Cordova is SO supportive of their artists… and their parks!  I always look forward to participating in Rancho Cordova Art Association‘s shows and having my art hung in City Hall.  They’ve recently open The MACC and I’m looking forward to showing there, too!

East Sacramento

ColdwellBankersArtShowI was recommended by Real Estate Agent Wendy Kay about a last minute opening as a vendor for the annual Coldwell Banker Sacramento Metro 20th Annual Art Exhibition and Sale at the Clunie Community Center in McKinley Park.  It was great exposure and I met a ton of new people in a short amount of time.  I also learned, for next year, I’ll need to bring my dolly (and maybe not in the way of the blinding sun).

Oak Park

BeTheChangeSoldRuthieBoltonI was approached to donate a piece of my work to A Community for Peace to be sold in a silent auction to raise money for Ruthie’s Place at Brick House Gallery.  I found that one of the most accomplished female athletes in the world, Ruthie Bolton, would be there and she’d asked for a gunpowder portrait, so I took the opportunity to present her with the piece.  There was a small bidding war over the piece I’d donated and the lovely lady Katherine who won the battle informed me she would be hanging it in her restaurant (Husick’s Taphouse).  Later, I was told she’s also the president of the Rotary Club of Clarksburg.

ButterflyPhotoOppI was also given the opportunity to participate in a pop-up show with Burners on Broadway for the 1st Friday Art Walk and got great exposure, made tons of new connections and friends.  I collaborated a photo opportunity  piece with my friend, Suzy Goodwin, and it was a hit!  I’m looking forward to popping up with them again and maybe including a live demo!

Georgia

I am thrilled and honored to have two of my pieces selected for the 30th Annual Decatur Fine Arts Exhibition at Agnes Scott College, part of the larger Decatur Arts Festival, an event that attracts upwards of 60,000 visitors.  Unlike many of the shows I’ve entered, this was not juried by one person, but rather a panel of three.  Two of the judges are accomplished artists and the third has a BA from Harvard and PhD from Oxford University.  If any of you happen to be traveling in the Atlanta area between May 22nd and June 10th, please go see the show and look for these:

Rocklin, California

GunpowderAftermathAfter participating in the Rocklin Fine Arts Association Annual Juried Show, I was asked to give a live gunpowder demonstration at their May monthly meeting and talk a bit about my work.

Fair Oaks, California

On the home front, I am excited about my show with Roberta Rousos “With Gusto”opening at the ACAI Gallery in Fair Oaks on May 16th.  The show runs through June 9th.  The artist reception is Saturday, May 19th from 6-8PM.  I will be doing a live demo of my gunpowder work at 6:30 that evening (so don’t be late).  I have a total of 34 pieces on display, my largest body of work, yet.  Can’t wait to see everyone!

  1. Looks good!  The only thing I would have done differently is include a picture of finished art (ideally the Tower Bridge) under the tab for the Rocklin show.  Not quite sure what that thing is that you presently have there. KVIE deadline is tomorrow!!!!
